| Biography: Rusty Whitfield was born in Pace, FL. in 1981. His family came from mostly farmers, oil company workers, and those involved in the ministries. Rusty began to play guitar at the age of 10 and by the age of 19 was touring with and the Alternative band Room to Breath from Asheville North Carolina. He then moved back to Jacksonville Florida and began to pursue music that moved him in a different direction. In 2003, Rusty went to Nashville Tennessee where he wrote and played among some of the finest singers and songwriters in today's country music scene. Most recently, December of 2008, he recorded his first solo album “Coming Home” in Muscle Shoals at FAME recording studios.
Rusty has developed his own unique writing and acoustic performance style. He is going back to when country music touch the hearts and lives of everyone who listened. Since Recording his album Rusty has tried to spend as much time playing for the military and charity organizations. He was an opening act for WXBM’s Country Fest 2009 Military Appreciation that featured James Otto and Craig Morgan. He also was invited to be an opening act for Mustang Sally by the MWR organization at NAS Pensacola. One of Rusty’s proudest moments was being invited to play at Lack land Air force Base in San Antonio Texas at the Fisher House. This performance for active military members dealing with long term illness and their families really touched Rusty deeply. “I will always remember that performance and care for each of those families” was Rusty’s sentiment as he left San Antonio. He was also touched that he preformed on a Sunday Afternoon and the Base Commander, Commander Mott, was able to attend. Rusty has felt that the military needs the support of their communities to let those individuals know that we stand behind them and understand the sacrifices they are making for our country.
The Military is not the only community that Rusty has donated his time and talent to support. Rusty has donated several performances to the United Way and to local organizations such as Main Street Programs. Rusty’s premier concert for the Album “Coming Home” was a benefit for the United Way. He also was the spokesperson for the local United Way fundraising campaign “Fishing for a Mission” in 2009.
Rusty has brought his music back home and hopes to help other musicians from his hometown. His first single, although not written by Rusty, is just that type of song. Entitled "Before I Die", written by two legendary songwriters of Nashville, Woody Mullis and Trey Matthews really says what the message is for this whole album. "This is a song that touches your heart" says artist Rusty Whitfield. "I felt when I heard it I had to record it because of the songs strong message." Though, Rusty is exploring country music he also feels that there is something left in him to open other doors in the music industry. We will just have to see where Rusty Whitfield will take us next.
