Webpage: http://www.highceilingmusic.com
Location: Shelton, WA, USA
Description: An eclectic blend of reggae, funk, dub and trance-style music. Conscious lyrics with reverence for unity, love, compassion, and growth
Biography: Hailing from the Olympia, WA area, High Ceiling has brought high energy, groove-laced music to the Pacific Northwest and beyond since February, 2004. Formed of friends and brothers, the group creates a live synergy connecting music, band, and audience. Reggae, Funk, Trance, Latin, and other worldly styles of music get mixed into every High Ceiling performance, making each one both unique and accessible to many types of crowds. Creating conscious music with reverence for unity, love, compassion, and growth; High Ceiling has built a loyal spirited fan base.

High Ceiling continues to expand their fan base the only way they know how--grassroots style. Through playing over 260 shows in 5 years, and a hefty dose of self-promotion, the band has earned much notoriety. High Ceiling has played at some of the Northwest’s largest music festivals, including Seattle Hempfest, Gathering Before the Light, and Flowmotion’s Summer Meltdown. Their debut album, Angle of Repose, received airplay on college radio stations in the Northwest, and now High Ceiling's new CD, Illusions, is currently receiving airplay on over 160 radio stations all across the United States and Canada, propelling the album to #14 on the jambands.com radio charts! High Ceiling also produces their own annual weekend-long music festival, the “Skok Valley Music Rally,” recruiting some of the Northwest’s finest bands and drawing fans from all over the region. Having completed multiple West coast tours as well as a large Western U.S. tour, High Ceiling is becoming known as the Northwest’s most popular and widely exported reggae/jam act.

Press Release:
High Ceiling releases Illusions

“High Ceiling is adventurously toeing the line between the Reggae and Jam-Band worlds. Their innovative take on fusion music has found a true base in the Pacific Northwest” - Nicholas Harris - Tour Manager, Groundation

"The energy of the band kept everyone asking for more. High Ceiling jams with high intensity throughout their whole performance and has a sound of their own that excites all genres and ages." - Ron Childers - Campus Booking Agent, Olympic College

“'Reality'...is wild on speakers, even wilder in headphones. Definitely presents a great method to get people up to the dance floor at any Friday night party...you’ll wild up any good times with this one." -Rich, Eartaste.com

As a staple of the Northwestern music scene, Washington’s High Ceiling has played hundreds of shows alongside some of the biggest names in Jam-Rock and Reggae, including JOHN BROWN’S BODY and GARAJ MAHAL. The group even organizes its own festival, the Skok Valley Music Rally. This weekend long festival takes place in August near Shelton, WA and features many of the best bands in the region in a cool outdoor setting. The band is known for improvised sections that make each live performance unique, and now they have managed to capture their energetic live show on their second full length studio album, Illusions. Currently in rotation on over 160 community and college radio stations across the U.S. and Canada, Illusions reached #14 on the jambands.com radio charts.

High Ceiling fuses the classic Roots, Rock and Reggae sound of groups like EASY STAR ALLSTARS or UB40 with unpredictable instrumental tangents similar to bands like TEA LEAF GREEN. The opening track “Illlusions” begins with a rather unassuming Hammond organ, but soon hits hard with a heavy dose of deep bass and percussive reggae grooves. Some tracks like “High and Lifted” or ”The Golden Rule” stay within the confines of reggae while some like “A Fire” and “Ubuntu” mix improvisational bits with odd time signatures and face-melting solos over the straight dub vamps. The lyrics are generally true to the genre, lush with the political and social commentary of classic Jamaican music. Some songs even abandon the style completely such as the R&B vibe of “Don’t Hesitate” or the mellow piano of “My Girl.” The album concludes with the ironically titled and fantastically epic jam “Reality.”

Please check High Ceiling’s album Illusions and let us know what you think. If you need any more information, would like to set up an interview, need a high-resolution .jpeg photo, or have any questions or requests, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Enjoy the music!
